Master Bath One Room Challenge | Week 1 | Spring 2020

First, I just want to say, I am so dang excited to be participating in another One Room Challenge!!! I love having this community to inspire and encourage each other on finishing a project!

For those of you new here, Hi! My name is Jenasie. I’m a vintage reseller and interior designer in Salt Lake City. I have three children and I’m married to my best friend. He’s goes along with all my crazy design plans and helps me make them a reality. This is my second time participating. Last Fall’s challenge we created a vintage inspired, bold bedroom for my 4 yr old son. It was so much fun to do and really stretched me as a designer. The experience I learned from participating is something I wouldn’t have learned anywhere else.

This Spring’s Challenge is going to be a unique experience from the other challenges. This time we get 8 weeks to complete a room and we are starting during a quarantine! We are going to need all the time we can get since it’s a bigger challenge to get supplies and shipments right now. If you want to watch what we are working on currently you can follow along through my Instagram Stories!

This time we are doing a Master Bathroom revamp! My goal with this room is to show that you don’t have to do a full reno to have a big transformation. Above is the moodboard I created for the space. I’m sure you can see a theme. I am a big fan of black, gold, white and bold! It’s super modern with an Art Deco feel. I will be adding in vintage touches like a pair of these mirrors because of course every room in my home has to have vintage! Y’all know gold mirrors are my fave! Unless you’re new here… and now you know, too. Ha ha

I feel very fortunate that we are starting with such a great base with this room. A nice bathtub, shower, and tile; but, the space is so beige. Everything is BEIGE! Since we moved in, I’ve wanted this space to be a reflection of my personal style. I get ready here every morning and I need some inspo to start my day. There’s no space more personal than your bathroom. So, let’s get ready to transform it to be a bit more me!

We had started doing small things in this room here and there, but couldn’t commit to really focusing on it and getting it done. That was my main reason for doing the challenge! We have a deadline and by the end I will have a bathroom I look forward to waking up to every morning!

Since we do have great bones we are focusing on how big of an impact aesthetics have on the room. It’s truly amazing what a difference that makes. You just need to find your style and stick to it. So we will be painting, wallpapering, changing out hardware, lighting, tiling, and adding in lots of personal details.

We already had started a custom cabinet in here and hit a road block. The stain repelled on the doors! We tried for weeks to make it work and finally gave up. So it’s sat like this, looking cluttered and driving me crazy, for a year!! I can’t wait to be able to just shut those cabinet doors and not have to look at it.

Last summer, I found amazing wallpaper on EBay and bought it immediately! It spoke to my Art Deco, boho-loving heart. Plus, it was super cheap. Only $20 per roll!! After I bought it I found out that wallpapering in a bathroom can be super risky. Having a shower that gets super steamy there is a risk that the wallpaper could peel off. Can you imagine doing all that work and having it peel??? It’s just been sitting there ever since, waiting for us to finally tackle it. We’ve been doing our research and hope we’ve come up with a good solution. You’ll have to stay tuned to find out. Cross your fingers for us.

Finally, we have this accent tile in the shower that really is not my style. I think it’s the thing I want to change the most! Well, again, that’s not so easily done…. We are still looking at ways to get creative. I have a couple options and I’ll start sharing all that in the next few weeks.

This is going to be unlike any other project we’ve done. We are attempting some majorly risky DIY’s and we are doing it all during a global pandemic. I’m so glad you are here for the ride. Wish us luck because we are going to need it!

I want to give a big shoutout to the sponsors that came on board for this room! Illumitate Vintage, Pepe & Carols, Schaub & Company, and Ariane Kamps. These amazing companies are definitely going to help me elevate this design!!

I am so grateful Linda, Calling it Home, is still pushing through to make this One Room Challenge happen! Having Better Homes & Gardens as the media sponsors again makes this whole event even cooler!

I hope this project can inspire you to do some small changes around your home. Or at least entertain you while your bored in the house, in the house bored. *Wink*

Cheers- Jenasie
